Scuba Diving in Atolls, Belize

On the outer surface of the Belize Barrier Reef, three of the four true coral atolls in the Western Hemisphere are found – Turneffe, Lighthouse and Glover’s.

Atolls are an asymmetric rimmed platform, entirely surrounded by a fringing reef rising virtually to the surface. Inside is a lagoon speckled with hundreds of coral patches.
